While creating this series of work, I must admit I was quite influenced by Lev Manovich’s paper, “Database as a Symbolic Form” where he talks about the never-ending database of information that the world has now become. In response to the idea of overflowing information and this notion of sexuality and inherent gendered patterns, I created a website; a Genderkammer, mapping out 12 intrinsic parts of gendered narratives and the language that we use in those narratives. The idea of the website is that in order for one to be able to parse it, it must first be allowed to overwhelm the senses; only then will the ‘create’ and ‘explore’ buttons become visible.
CREATE
After entering the create section you can traverse the “Wunderkammer” to find different images and word associations and sounds connected to the sections, which create an aural narrative if one were to click all the buttons one by one, yet again overwhelming the sense only to make sense of it after it is almost over.
